KIMBERLY SHIBUYA, PT, DPT, CSCS

PHYSICAL THERAPIST | DIRECTOR OF PHYSICAL THERAPY- IRVINE

While in high school, Kim went through 6 months of physical therapy for an ankle injury that left her unable to run or play basketball. She experienced the power of physical therapy and the positive impact a Physical Therapist has on people’s lives; leading her to become a physical therapist herself.

After graduating from the University of California Irvine, Kim earned her Doctorate Program at Chapman University. This is where she became a proud recipient of the Outstanding Performance in Academics Award, Service & Research Award, and the Academic Excellence Award. During her undergraduate and graduate program, she was actively involved in bone density and stroke rehabilitation research, and worked as an aide at Envision Sport.

Kim returned to her Alma Mater as a Professor, working in the physical therapy department. She has volunteered for the Special Olympics with the Chapman University team, doing physical assessments to ensure the athletes were safe to participate. She, also volunteers with the Orange County Stroke Network assisting with their annual picnic. Despite all of her incredible accomplishments and credentials, Kim is always working towards growing as a therapist; she is currently working towards obtaining her OCS certification.

When not working or teaching, Kim and her husband are out exploring. They enjoy their time traveling and experiencing different cultures. Her favorite adventure was with her husband, in a cove, off of the Big Island of Hawaii. In the middle of the night, they floated to the middle of the ocean hanging onto nothing but lighted surf boards.  This illuminated the waters below allowing them to see a couple dozen of manta rays swimming beneath them.
